... that promotes
The first Bible I purchased for myself was a Red Letter edition; it highlighted all the words spoken by Jesus in red, and to be honest, those were the only words I was interested in at the time. I had just finished my first year of Bible College, and was well aware that I had a lot to learn about following Jesus. I also figured that the best teacher was Jesus himself; and paying attention to His Words changed my life.
We are beginning a new series of messages on Sunday focused on RED Letter Living. During this series, we’ll look at Jesus’ words, the red letters, found in the fourth chapter of Matthew. You’ve probably heard them before, but we’ll take a closer look at them together. Matthew records that Jesus said, “Not by Bread Alone,” “Repent,” and “Follow Me.”
The idea for red letter Bibles is attributed to Louis Klopsch, who was a Christian magazine editor in 1890s. In order to emphasize the words of Jesus, he decided to print them in red. His inspiration came from Jesus’ words found in Luke 22:40, “This cup is the New Testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” His idea caught on and soon nearly every Bible distributed emphasized Jesus words by printing them in red. You probably own a copy.
While the themes for the Sunday morning messages for 2012 will be promoted through different series titles, like “No Excuses” or “The Good Life,” the primary text for these messages will come from those printed in RED.
